Kevin Vertrees
I'm a singer, pianist, composer, meditation teacher and community organizer based in Brooklyn, New York.
I grew up in Columbus, Ohio and studied Music Composition at Ohio State. My music draws on jazz, classical, soul, spiritual and rock — a confluence of my "heart of it all" roots and a stubborn belief that music can help build a better world. I'm drawn to sacred and secular music alike, and to what happens when popular song forms meet improvisation, poetry and collaboration.
DUMBO, Brooklyn has been home base for over 30 years. In that time I've organized and led several arts organizations, including Smack Mellon Studios, the Delaware Valley Chamber Orchestra, and SkyDog Projects — which explored the intersection of farming, art, and organizing communities to protect the environment.
I came to technology through music, and I've spent my career leading technology teams and long transformation projects. Lately I've been building a system of my own: an operating system for creative work, designed in conversation with AI. I write about that — and about music and meditation — at writing.kevinvertrees.com.
